Current Education Situation in Flooding area
On 26 August 2026, a catastrophic flood triggered by a rock–ice avalanche and debris flow crossing the Nepal–China border in the upper Bhote Koshi River basin devastated communities across Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and downstream districts of Nepal.
Families have lost their homes, livelihoods and loved ones. Schools have been damaged, swept away or turned into shelters. For thousands of children, the disaster has meant the sudden loss of their classroom, friends, teachers and sense of security.
According to the Education Cluster Situation Report of 1 September 2026, approximately 9,800 children in 32 flood-affected schools have had their learning disrupted. Eight public schools are being used as shelters for around 1,200 children.
The human cost is devastating. 18 people from 12 schools—including 17 students and one teacher, have been swept away, while 249 people, including 233 students and 15 teachers and one other remain missing.

The priorities area for response & early recovery Initiatives :
CFS will provide children with protection, structured play, psychosocial support, and age- appropriate learning opportunities during the emergency.
Activities will include child- friendly learning sessions, recreational activities, life skills, and protection-focused engagement to help children regain a sense of normalcy and continue learning.
Target: 20 CFS
Tentative Cost per CFS: $ 1000
Children will receive essential learning and hygiene supplies, including stationery, educational materials, school bags, uniforms and personal hygiene items.
These kits will enable children to resume learning, maintain dignity, and reduce barriers to educational participation during displacement and recovery.
Target: 400 Students/Children
Tentative Cost per Kit: $ 70
Qualified psychosocial counselors will be mobilized to support teachers, children, and families, while trained youth volunteers will facilitate counselling, recreational activities, and community-based psychosocial support.
These interventions will help children cope with trauma, reduce stress, and improve their readiness to re-engage in learning.
Target: 10 Counselors + 20 Youths
Tentative Cost per Person: $ 1,500
Teachers and education personnel will receive essential teaching materials, psychosocial support, and orientation on emergency education and child protection.
Strengthening teachers’ capacity and wellbeing will ensure the continuity of quality learning and provide critical support to affected children.
Target: 50 Teachers and Education Personnel
Tentative Cost per Person: $ 50
TLCs will be established in areas where schools have been damaged, destroyed, or are being used as shelters.
Equipped with learning materials and basic infrastructure, TLCs will provide safe and structured environments for children to continue their education until regular schooling is restored.
Target: 10 TLCs
Tentative Cost per TLC: $ 2,500
Vulnerable and disaster-affected families will be supported through small-scale livelihood and income-generation initiatives, alongside awareness on climate resilience and adaptation.
It will reduce negative coping mechanisms and help families keep children in school during the early recovery period.
Target: 20 Families
Tentative Cost per Family: $ 750
