The construction of the new girls’ hostel at the Sherpa School in Ramechhap is nearly complete. Following the significant damage to the existing hostel after the 2015 earthquake, GAN provided 90% of the costs to build a new one.
Long Term Solution
In 2014, GAN UK formally merged with the Buddha Memorial Children's Home Trust, a UK-based charity which had been working in Nepal for many years. Their main aim was to provide practical, long-term solutions to the plight of destitute, orphaned, abandoned and underprivileged children in Nepal by giving them a sound all-round education from pre-school onwards.
Sherpa School Class
Following this merger, GAN UK has continued to support the work of the BMCHT at the Sherpa School in Ramechhap District. The Sherpa School provides education and a place to live for hundreds of poor children in the surrounding villages. Through sponsorship from supporters around the world, we support the education of over 50 children at the school.
New Girl's Hostel
Following the 2015 earthquakes, the Sherpa School was very badly affected, with many buildings being partially or fully destroyed. GAN UK has supported the building of a new girls’ hostel for 50 girls who live so far away that they must stay on site to get an education. Before this construction, the girls had been sleeping on the floor of a classroom.
